As part of the McAninch Arts Center’s (MAC) 35th anniversary celebration, the BoDeans return for a live concert 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 4. The trail-blazing band catapulted to stardom in the mid ‘80s and is credited with inspiring a new radio format called Adult Alternative. Their dynamic live shows inspired tours with such legends as U2 (Joshua Tree Tour), Bob Dylan and David Bowie and earned the band appearances on “Saturday Night Live,” “The Late Show with David Letterman” and more. This performance marks a rare opportunity for audiences to experience the BoDeans’ biggest hits and signature sound in such an intimate and acoustically sound venue.

Performing at the MAC will be group co-founder Kurt Neumann (vocals, guitar), Stefano Intelisano (keyboards, accordion), Brian Ferguson (drums) and James Hertless (bass, backing vocals). The band got its start when Neumann and high school friends realized they had similar taste in music and began writing songs. BoDeans signed its first recording contract in 1985 and its debut record “Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams” was released 1986.
BoDeans had much success in the late ‘80s and ‘90s with chart-topping songs including “Only Love,” “Fadeaway,” “Dreams,” “Good Things” and “Closer to Free.” Since then, the band has released 12 studio albums with 10 records that hit the Billboard “Top 200” chart. Honors include being named Best New American Band in Rolling Stone Reader’s Poll (1987) and securing a permanent installation at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland.
The band has opened for artists including U2, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Tom Petty and David Bowie; performed at Farm Aid, Summerfest and ACL Festival. In addition to appearances on SNL and Letterman, they have been seen on NBC’s “TODAY” show, CNN and ESPN. After more than 30 years together, the band is still touring year-round and delivering incredible, energetic performances of its classic hits. They also recently launched a new podcast series, “Staring at the World” with Kurt Neumann.
