Traffic Stop on Interstate 65 Leads to Drug Arrest

Tippecanoe County – Today (6/27/2023), just after midnight, Trooper Miramontes was patrolling Interstate 65 near the 171 mile marker. Trooper Miramontes stopped a 2017 Honda Accord for a traffic violation. The Accord was occupied by the driver and three passengers. The passengers were later identified to be Nicole Reynolds, Rebeca Banner, and Bradley Wise.

While speaking with the driver, Trooper Miramontes noticed indicators that criminal activity might be afoot and requested assistance from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office. A Tippecanoe County Deputy utilized his K-9 to conduct an open-air sniff, which indicated to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers on the scene located suspected heroin, syringes, pills, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. After further investigation, troopers were able to determine that the items located in the vehicle belonged to the passengers. All three of the passengers were transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail. The driver was cited and released from the scene.

While at the Tippecanoe County Jail, jail staff located suspected heroin that Banner was concealing on her person.

In total, troopers located approximately 20 grams of heroin, over 500 pills, and over 230 syringes.

- Nicole Reynolds, 36, Raleigh, North Carolina  

  1. Possession of a Controlled Substance – Level 6 Felony
  2. Possession of Legend Drug or Precursor – Level 6 Felony
  3. Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe – Level 6 Felony
  4. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Class A Misdemeanor
  5. Possession of a Controlled substance – Class A Misdemeanor
  6. Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor

- Rebeca Banner, 32, Holly Springs, North Carolina

  1. Possession of a Controlled Substance – Level 6 Felony
  2. Possession of Legend Drug or Precursor – Level 6 Felony
  3. Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe – Level 6 Felony
  4. Trafficking with an Inmate – Level 6 Felony
  5. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Class A Misdemeanor
  6. Possession of a Controlled Substance – Class A Misdemeanor
  7. Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor

- Bradley Wise, 42, Wendell, North Carolina

  1. Possession of a Controlled Substance – Level 6 Felony
  2. Possession of Legend Drug or Precursor – Level 6 Felony
  3. Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe – Level 6 Felony
  4. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Class A Misdemeanor
  5. Possession of a Controlled Substance – Class A Misdemeanor
  6. Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor

Trooper Miramontes was assisted by other troopers from the Lafayette Post and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.
