Tippecanoe County – Tuesday morning, just after 6:00 a.m., troopers from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post went to 6206 Pretty Prairie Road, Battle Ground, IN, to follow up on an investigation that stemmed from a domestic disturbance earlier in the morning.
When troopers arrived at the residence, they attempted to speak with Eldon Morehouse, 59, from Battle Ground, IN. Troopers were unable to locate Morehouse, but while troopers were at the residence, one gun shot was fired from behind a barn near the residence. Officers on scene set up a perimeter around the property, requested Indiana State Police SWAT and Tippecanoe County SWAT, and obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Members from the Indiana State Police SWAT, Tippecanoe County SWAT, and Indiana State Police Negotiators arrived and attempted to contact Morehouse. After numerous attempts to get Morehouse to surrender, Indiana State Police SWAT applied non-lethal techniques to attempt to gain voluntary compliance. Morehouse surrendered to Indiana State Police SWAT and was taken into custody without further incident. Morehouse was transported to Tippecanoe County Jail.
During a subsequent search of Morehouse's residence, officers located marijuana growing on the property and in the barn near the residence. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
