On Saturday, March 15th, the School Town of Munster and Munster Police Department held the annual Snowflurry Event at Wilbur Wright Middle School. Snowflurry is held as an extension of the police department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program in an effort to promote drug prevention, bullying prevention, and the importance of treating others with respect.
This year’s event was one of the largest ever, with 258 fifth graders being led in a variety of activities by approximately 100 Munster High School student volunteers. The event was also supervised by a number of school principals, teachers, and all of our town’s school resource officers.

The MUNSTER JUNIOR WOMAN’S CLUB ran their service project station where the students made 350 cards for Phil’s Friends (supporting individuals with cancer) and decorated 1000 delivery bags for Meals on Wheels recipients. The MJWC members also generously donated and constructed the hundreds of “warm fuzzy” necklaces that the participants wore during the event. We would like to thank their members for their continued, dedicated support of many of our police department’s community policing programs throughout the year.

In addition, the students signed each others’ shirts, played dodgeball, engaged in peer mentoring, had snacks, and most importantly, learned about the importance of respecting each other. We also hope that many of the participants made a new friend on Saturday.
THANK YOU to the Eads, Elliott, and Frank Hammond PTOs for donating water, Munster Donut, Jewel Osco, the Wilbur Wright MS Custodial Staff, Rachel Branagan, and our many dedicated Munster High School student volunteers for their support this year!
