The Munster Police Department would like to thank the many people who stopped by this year’s “Cop on a Rooftop” event which was held this past Friday, August 19th at Dunkin’ Donuts.

In between 6am-9am that morning, a Munster Police officer was on the roof of the business waiving to participants and passing vehicles in an effort to raise awareness and support for Special Olympics athletes. Additional officers were located along the drive-thru area and near the front entrance collecting donations for Special Olympics Indiana, and we are pleased to announce that about $1,600 was raised in just three hours.

Special Olympics Indiana is a nonprofit organization that is a part of the global Special Olympics movement, using sport, health, education and leadership programs every day around the world to end discrimination against and empower people with intellectual disabilities.
Founded in 1969, Special Olympics Indiana is one of more than 50 affiliates in North America and the program has grown to include nearly 18,000 athletes and Unified partners with the support of more than 10,000 coaches and volunteers throughout the state. Special Olympics Indiana receives no federal or state funds and relies entirely on donations for their athletes. Thank you again to everyone who participated last week’s fundraising event!
