The Munster Police Department and Choice Community Council would like to thank everyone who either participated in or sponsored Munster’s 28th Annual National Night Out Against Crime Celebration which was held Tuesday, August 1st.

This year’s event attracted by far its highest attendance ever with thousands of participating residents and a record 130 booth participants.

This year’s event also included games, prizes, K-9 demonstrations, free swimming for residents, safety information, a magic show, costumed characters, food vendors, giveaways, and much more.

Our annual Citizenship Awards were also presented to Barbara Pakan, Connie Karras, Kaaren Mashura, Barbara Shaver, and Dr. Lorin Brown and Block Unity Awards were presented to residents from Greenwood Avenue, Elliott Drive, and the Independence Park subdivision.

We would like to thank Hal Morris, former MLB player and MHS Alumni Hall of Fame member, for signing autographs for and taking photos with our participants that evening.

We also appreciated the “return” of Batman (Anthony Christopher of Top Tier Nutrition), Frank & Dylan Ozug for their photography, and our many dedicated volunteers who helped to plan and volunteer their time during the event.

We would like to especially thank Greg Kaplan and Krazy Kaplan’s Fireworks for sponsoring another awesome closing fireworks show. He has generously provided this show for 9 years.

Our event was also covered by WGN News, Fox Chicago News, WJOB, The Times, and NWI Life.
THANK YOU again to everyone who helped to make this year’s National Night Out event the best one yet! Event photos and sponsors are posted on our department’s Facebook page.
