The Footlight Players of Michigan City will open their 72nd season with the all-time favorite comedy, STEEL MAGNOLIAS written by Robert Harling and directed by Janice Rice, with Bryan Redeagle as her Assistant Director.

The action is set in a beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana where all the ladies in town go to get their beauty needs taken care of.  Helped by her new assistant, Annelle (Maggie Gowan), who’s not sure if she’s still married, the wise-cracking Truvy (Dee Piotrowski) dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser (Laura Meyer), who is “not crazy, just in a bad mood for 40 years”, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee (Kathy Chase), who has a raging sweet tooth, and the local social leader M’Lynn (Sherry VerWey), whose daughter, Shelby (Isobelle Sebastian), the prettiest girl in town, is about to get married.  This show is filled with hilarious repartee and humorously acerbic verbal collisions as well as heartfelt emotions towards the end of the play. You will leave with a feeling as if you know these ladies.

Rice has a strong cast to carry off these 6 ladies personalities, and a talented crew to take care of the technical aspects of the show which include Declan Rice, Tony and Michael Thomas, Chris and Lara West, Joy Davidson, Jim Milcarek and Sharon Kienitz.

This comedy will certainly have sell-out houses, so reservations are strongly suggested. There is no assigned seating, so come early to get a good spot. The show is performed at The Footlight Players Theater at 1705 Franklin Street in the heart of Michigan City.

The show opens Friday September 3rd and runs through September 12th.  Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, curtain at 7:30 pm with a 2:00 pm matinee on Sundays. Ticket prices are $15.00, $10.00 for children 12 years and under and on Thursday performances.

You can make your reservations one of three ways; by telephone (219) 874-4035, in person at the box-office whenever the theater is open, or via the internet (www.FootlightPlayers.org), click the “Reservations” box.

The doors open 45 minutes before curtain time and your reservation will be held up until 15 minutes before curtain after which they will offered to anyone waiting for a seat. .
