The Munster Police Department held our annual spring semester Drug Abuse Resistance Educaon (D.A.R.E.) Graduation ceremonies at Elliott, Eads, and Frank Hammond Elementary School on May 13th, 17th, and21st, respecvely. These events, which were held in conjunction with the schools and their parent-teacher organizaons, honor each of the fifth grade students for compleng the 10-week core curriculum that includes subjects such as drug prevention, bullying prevention, managing stress, using help networks, and more. The students also were visited by D.A.R.E. Role Models in late April to talk more about safety.

During the ceremonies students received certificates, gift bags, and D.A.R.E. t-shirts, sang songs, and selected students were recognized with Daren Awards, D.A.R.E. Essay Awards, Albert’s Awards, and more. One student from each school was also randomly chosen by Daren the Lion to take home a new Daren stuffed animal at the end of the ceremonies.

We would like to thank our generous D.A.R.E. Program sponsors (including our PTO’s), Munster Parks & Recretion, the schools, their staff members, and the parents for their continued support of this important safety program which has been running strong now in Munster for 36 years (since 1988).
Congratulations again to each of our spring semester D.A.R.E. graduates and award winners!
