Single Tickets on sale for MAC's 2022-2023 Season and Warhol 2023

McAninch Arts Center (MAC), located at 425 Fawell Blvd., hosts a festive Tickets On Sale Party, Saturday, Aug. 6 in the MAC lobby, beginning at 11 a.m. In addition to marking the first opportunity for the public to buy single event tickets for the MAC’s 2022-2023 Performance Series, it also will be the first opportunity to purchase single event tickets for Buffalo Theatre Ensemble and New Philharmonic’s new seasons, as well as Anytime Entry Tickets to “Warhol: Featuring Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop / Works from the Bank of America Collection”  hosted by the Cleve Carney Museum of Art (CCMA), MAC and College of DuPage June 3 – Sept. 10, 2023.

Since Aug. 6 is also Andy Warhol’s birthday, the Tickets On-Sale Party will include Warhol-themed décor and photo opportunities with an Andy Warhol lookalike plus music, free food and drink. The event also will feature gifts for the first 100 buyers and drawings for prizes every half hour. Patrons will have the opportunity to chat with representatives of the MAC, Cleve Carney Museum of Art, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble and New Philharmonic; enjoy personal attention from box office staff; save on handling fees; and secure access to prime theater seating.

Highlights of the MAC’s 2022 – 2023 season include:
• A season opening engagement of alternative rock legends, the BoDeans,* preceded by a MAC Season Kick-Off Party featuring samples from the MAC dining partners, silent auction and more (Sept. 17);
• The three-time Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir in their exclusive Chicago area stop on their “HOPE – It’s Been A Long Time Coming” Tour (Sept. 30);
• For Hispanic Heritage Month, Mariachi Herencia De México’s newest project, “Herederos” (Heirs) with special guest Lupita Infante, granddaughter of the iconic Mexican singer and actor Pedro Infante (Oct. 2);
• Stand-up comedian Pat Tomasulo, known also for his work as WGN-TV's sports anchor and reporter (Nov. 5);
• Pilobolus, the internationally acclaimed innovative contemporary dance company known for their wit, sensuality, flexibility and athleticism, in their newest show, “Big Five-Oh!”, celebrating their golden anniversary (Feb. 5);
• The thrilling all-male percussive dance group MALEVO, golden buzzer recipients from Season 11 of “America's Got Talent,” and recipient of the “MARCA PAIS” distinction as cultural ambassadors of Argentina (Feb. 25);

• Hot Club of Cowtown & Tyler Hilton (who played Elvis in the blockbuster biopic, “Walk the Line) in an exclusive Chicago area performance “Celebrating Elvis Presley’s Records from Sun Studios” (Jan. 15);
• The dynamic puppetry company, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia performing their newest work, “It’s Ok to Be Different,” featuring three stories by New York Times bestselling author and illustrator, Todd Parr (Feb. 14);
• By popular demand, the return of Toronto's dynamic, crowd-pleasing tribute band, Brass Transit – The Musical Legacy of Chicago (March 11).

The MAC’s full 2022 – 2023 season line-up, including New Philharmonic and Buffalo Theatre Ensemble’s previously announced seasons, is attached to this release. Select events will be accompanied by a free MAC Chat, providing the opportunity to engage with artists and learn more about their work.

In addition to its season of professional productions, the MAC will host more than 60 College of DuPage College Theater, Music and Dance performances and recitals which are affordable and exceptional entertainment experiences. Buffalo Theatre Ensemble Presents “Clybourne Park” by Bruce Norris

Inspired by Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in The Sun,” “Clybourne Park” is a provocative comedy/drama set in the same house 50 years apart in the suburbs of Chicago. Act One takes place in 1959 when Russ and Bev are moving to the suburbs – selling their home to the neighborhood’s first Black family. Act Two is decades later when a young white couple buys the same property with plans to demolish and build a larger home. Now a predominantly Black community battles to protect the historic qualities of the community in the face of gentrification. “Clybourne Park” was awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play.

BoDeans

By popular demand, the BoDeans return to the MAC. With chart topping songs like “Closer to Free,” “Fade Away,” “Only Love,” and Dream,” and their high energy performances, the BoDeans have solidified their place as one of the best live acts in the business.

New Philharmonic: “Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto”

Filipino-American Steinway piano artist Victor Santiago Asuncion, hailed by The Washington Post for his “poised and imaginative playing,” joins New Philharmonic for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 23. The program will also feature selections from Sergei Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet Suite,” Op. 64, brimming with lyrical melodies that capture the romance and tragedy of Shakespeare’s classic tale.  

Soweto Gospel Choir: “HOPE – It’s Been A Long Time Coming”

The three-time Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir performs a special program celebrating American and South African artists who have championed the struggles for civil rights and social justice, including Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte and Mahlia Jackson. Through earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, brilliant costumes and infectious spirit, Soweto Gospel Choir uplifts the soul. “Absolutely thrilling singers... dazzling music” (Billboard). 

Mariachi Herencia De México: “Herederos (Heirs) with Special Guest Lupita Infante

For Hispanic Heritage Month, the MAC brings two of mariachi’s best to the Belushi Performance Hall stage – Chicago’s own Latin Grammy nominated Mariachi Herencia de Mexico and multi-Grammy nominated vocalist Lupita Infante, granddaughter of Mexican icon Pedro Infante. Together they honor their legacy with a colorful and unforgettable experience of Mexican music and culture. 

The Doo Wop Project

Featuring stars of Broadway’s “Jersey Boys” and “Motown: The Musical,” The Doo Wop Project traces the evolution of doo wop from five guys singing tight harmonies on a street corner in the ‘50s to the electrifying vibes of the biggest hits on the radio today. Selections include hits by the Belmonts, Flamingos, Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, the Four Seasons and Michael Jackson and more.  

Giordano Dance Chicago: 60th Anniversary Season

Considered “jazz dance royalty” (Chicago Tribune), Giordano Dance Chicago is America’s original jazz dance company and has been wowing audiences around the world for 60 years. WTTW raves, the electrifying dancers “invariably run-on high-octane fuel and generate a similarly high-powered response from their audience.”  

Free post-show ballroom dance class with Artistic Director Nan Giordano and the dancers. All skill levels are welcome. 

New Philharmonic: “Halloween Spooktakular – Haunting Classics”

This ghoulishly fun, family-friendly musical treat features popular and spooky selections performed by the New Philharmonic musicians each in costume. Audience members are welcome to dress up in costume to enjoy the bewitching music Maestro Muspratt conjures with his baton.  

Pat Tomasulo  

  • 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5

By day, he is one of the hosts of the #1 rated WGN Morning News. By night, he is one of the most in-demand stand-up comedians working today, with a weekly podcast that is one of the highest-charting stand-up comedy podcasts in Apple’s ratings. Tomasulo brings his dry wit and topical humor to the MAC for an evening of stand up.

Buffalo Theatre Ensemble: “Season’s Greetings” by Alan Ayckbourn

Friends and family gather at Neville and Belinda’s home to celebrate the holidays. Hilarious mayhem is quickly unleashed due to a tryst under the Christmas tree, an unforgettable puppet show, and maybe even a murder. “Season’s Greetings” offers a seriously entertaining look at the anxiety and high jinks of an average family during the holidays.

College of DuPage Theater: Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” Adapted by William J. Norris Directed by Amelia Barrett

In this 70-minute adaptation, the treasured tale of Ebenezer Scrooge is brought to life by a cast of 50 local actors and children creating the perfect family event to usher in the holiday season.  

The Second City: “Jingle Bell Ruckus”

The Second City’s “Jingle Bell Ruckus” delivers a generous serving of seasonal satire that is a perfect alternative to those same old holiday shows. Nothing is sacred. Even Rudolph gets a wicked holiday slant in this fast-paced, interactive comedy revue filled with style wit, and plenty of that famous Second City improv.

Salt Creek Ballet: “The Nutcracker” With New Philharmonic

MAC welcomes back Salt Creek Ballet for their traditional staging of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” This magical full-scale production with more than 50 dancers including guest artists features live accompaniment from New Philharmonic – a rare opportunity to see this magnificent ballet performed to live music.

Hot Club of Cowtown & Tyler Hilton: “Celebrating Elvis Presley’s Records from Sun Studios

Since its beginnings in the late 1990s, Hot Club of Cowtown’s star has continued to rise along with its reputation for jaw-dropping virtuosity and unforgettable live shows. Now they are teaming up with Tyler Hilton, who was cast in the 2005 blockbuster biopic “Walk the Line” to play the legendary rock star, to bring Presley’s hits from the Sun Studios years to life on the MAC stage.  

New Philharmonic: “Korngold’s Hollywood Concerto”

16-year-old violinist Esme Kim Arias, winner of the 2022 Minnesota Orchestra Young People’s Concerto Competition, joins New Philharmonic for Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s “Violin Concerto in D Major,” Op. 35. The master film composer of Hollywood’s golden age transformed his movie themes into one of the best-loved concertos of the 20th century. The program also features Finlandia, Jean Sibelious’ tone poem depicting the historical struggles of the Finnish people, and George Enescu’s joyful “Rhapsody No. 1” in A Major.  

Buffalo Theatre Ensemble: “Andy Warhol’s Tomato” by Vince Melocchi

  It is 1946 in Pittsburgh. 18-year-old Andy Warhol finds himself in the basement of a working-class bar. Over the course of a summer, Warhol gives and gets inspiration, guidance and friendship from a surprising source in this fictional take on an apocryphal story of an American legend, a prelude to the upcoming CCMA “Warhol” exhibition June 3-Sept. 23.

Pilobolus: “Big Five-Oh!”

As Pilobolus turns 50, this innovative contemporary dance company continues to wow audiences with its irresistible mix of wit, sensuality, and stunning physical acumen. The New York Times says, “The continuity of changing imagery, the easy sensuousness and the wonderful push-me-pull-you surprises of the physicality: These still seem to come right out of their makers’ dreams and into ours.”  Now, to celebrate its golden anniversary, Pilobolus brings a special program featuring a mix of pieces ranging from the vintage and visionary to the fresh and electrifying for a never-before-seen Pilobolus experience.  

The Second City: “The Best of The Second City”

The Second City has been laughing at love and its infinite scroll of side effects for decades. In the world-famous comedy company’s latest laughter-inducing undertaking, The Second City takes shots at heartbreak, missed connections and the mire of human relationships.

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia: “It’s Okay to Be Different” – Stories by Todd Parr

The Imaginative and dynamic puppetry company Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia brings three contemporary stories by New York Times and bestselling author and illustrator Todd Parr to the stage. All three books: “It’s Okay to be Different,” “This is My Hair” and “The Earth Book,” explore timely subjects of acceptance with inspiring messages to keep ourselves and the
Earth happy and healthy. 

Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents: “Songs We Love”

“Songs We Love” is a journey through 40 years of jazz song. Under the musical direction of Riley Mulherkar, the 2020 recipient of Lincoln Center’s Emerging Artist Award, three guest vocalists will join Jazz at Lincoln Center’s illustrious band. Combining their distinct talents, the group will sing their way through four decades of music, beginning with the early blues and jazz of the 1920s and ending in the early 1950s. Iconic singers to be explored include Ma Rainey, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland.  

MALEVO 

  • 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25

After making it to the semi-finals on “America’s Got Talent” as a Golden Buzzer recipient and sharing the stage with Ricky Martin and Cirque du Soleil, MALEVO is ready to take the MAC stage. Considered the cultural ambassadors of Argentina, this thrilling all-male percussive dance group pushes Malambo—a traditional Argentine folk dance of great virility and dexterity—beyond its limits with a modern approach, merging it with other dance styles and urban percussion.  

Dublin Irish Dance: “Wings: A Celtic Celebration of Dance”

Direct from Ireland, “Wings” is a Celtic dance celebration featuring Irish and World Champion dancers alongside Ireland’s finest musical and vocal virtuosos. Maryland Theatre Guide hails Dublin Irish Dance as “precise and exuberant…modern and homespun… grand and Irish.” 

Brass Transit – The Musical Legacy of Chicago

Toronto's dynamic, crowd-pleasing, studio-tight powerhouse, and the world foremost Chicago tribute returns to the MAC with a show spanning all the hits from rock band Chicago's golden age, 1969-1976. With world-class horns, a rocking rhythm section and vocals stacked sky high, Brass Transit transports the audience back to the freewheeling days of the seventies. 

New Philharmonic: Broadway in Concert - "South Pacific”

Maestro Kirk Muspratt conducts the skilled musicians of New Philharmonic along with a star-quality vocal cast and chorus for the rare chance to hear the music from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 10-time Tony Award-winning musical “South Pacific.” The evening will feature beloved favorites “Bali Ha’i,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Going to Wash that Man Out of My Hair, "There Is Nothing Like a Dame" and more, performed with the full orchestral power as they were meant to be. 

“Who Hijacked My Fairytale?” Starring Kelly Swanson

Mother’s Day weekend, award-winning storyteller, comedian, motivational speaker, author of “Who Hijacked My Fairy Tale” shares the comic twisted journey to a happier ever after. This great “girls’ night out” will refresh and empower, with a message that will last long after the last laugh.

The World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra

The World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra returns to the MAC just in time for Mother’s Day. Considered to be one of the greatest dance bands of all time, the group won its place in history by earning the first-ever gold record awarded for the unforgettable tune, “Chattanooga Choo Choo.” This legendary swing dance band provides an entertaining afternoon of works like “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” “Rhapsody in Blue” and more.

The Cleve Carney Museum of Art (CCMA) and the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) at the College of DuPage (COD) present “Warhol: Featuring the Andy Warhol Portfolios – A Life in Pop / Works from the Bank of America Collection,” June 3 - Sept. 10, 2023.  

“Warhol: Featuring the Andy Warhol Portfolios – A Life in Pop / Works from the Bank of America Collection” will feature 94 works from “Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop / Works from the Bank of America Collection” on loan through Bank of America’s Art in our Communities® program. The exhibition will also include over 100 works from the College of DuPage Permanent Art Collection. The exhibition and programming will be led by MAC Director Diana Martinez and CCMA Curator Justin Witte. 

The exhibition will encompass both the CCMA and the MAC, unfolding across roughly 10,000 square-feet of exhibition space. Educational and interactive elements will include a biographical exhibition highlighting key points in Warhol’s life and career, video archive installation, interactive mural, children’s print factory area, Studio 54 and Silver Cloud Room experiences and Central Park-inspired outdoor café, creating an immersive, multifaceted exhibition focused on the life and work of one of the most influential artists of the past century.
