The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra presents Side by Side with a Twist: A Celebration of Music Education, the second concert in their 2023-2024 subscription series on February 10, 2024 at 7:00 pm at the Holdcraft Performing Arts Center, 1200 Spring Street, Michigan City. Tickets can be purchased online here for $25 for adults and $22 for seniors. Students of any age with ID receive free admission.
For this year's Side by Side program, LCSO Music Director and Conductor Dr. Carolyn Watson has invited local music educators and enthusiasts to join the orchestra ranks for portions of the program. Students are encouraged to attend and see their own music teacher or private lesson instructor on stage! "Many music educators are passionate solo and chamber players but often are too busy or don't have the opportunity to play regularly with an ensemble. We wanted to give them this opportunity to play alongside the LCSO and work with Dr. Watson, and show their students they can 'practice what they preach!'" says LCSO Executive Director Emily Yiannias.
The program is a celebration of Black History month, with works by Black composers William Grant Still, the "Ragtime King" Scott Joplin, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Margaret Bonds and Valerie Coleman.

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra is a cornerstone of the vibrant arts landscape in Northwest Indiana. The orchestra serves the 110,000 residents of La Porte County and regions beyond, including Southwest Michigan. Now in its 51st season, the LCSO has grown from a small community orchestra into a dynamic, professional orchestra of 60 musicians serving audiences from seven counties. Each year, the orchestra presents four subscription concerts, in addition to the Hoosier Star, Holiday at the Pops and Children's Education concerts.
