Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter is pleased to announce the promotion of Sergeant Stephen Buckley to the rank of First Sergeant, where he will oversee the activities of criminal investigations at the Lafayette Post. Sergeant Buckley, a 22-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, was selected for this new position based on a competitive process that included written testing, an oral interview, seniority, education, and past job performance.
Buckley is a native of Warren County and graduated from Seeger High School in 1994. He continued his education at Indiana State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminology and psychology in 1999. He graduated from the 62nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in 2001 and was initially assigned to the Lafayette District.
During his tenure at the Lafayette District, Buckley primarily patrolled White and Carroll counties before being reassigned to the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division as a detective in 2007. He served as a detective until 2016, when he was promoted to sergeant and became the District Investigative Squad Leader. While serving as a squad leader, Buckley furthered his education at Indiana Institute of Technology, obtaining a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership.
Throughout his career with the Indiana State Police, Buckley has served as a crash re-constructionist, Field Training Officer, and a member of the TIP and EOD Teams.
In his new position, Buckley will serve as the District Investigative Commander of the Lafayette Post, where his extensive experience and leadership skills will greatly benefit the department and the community.
