The Munster Police Department is offering the following tips for preventing pickpocket thefts

• NEVER leave your purse in the cart where thieves have easy access. Keep your purse on your shoulder, zipped-up, and slung in front of you at all times.

• KEEP your wallet in your front pocket while in stores or crowds Pickpockets are very good at removing a wallet from a back pocket quickly and without the victim even noticing it.

• BEWARE of distraction techniques that are used by pickpockets such as asking you for directions, bumping you, or to help them with reading a product in an aisle. If you are bumped, make sure to take inventory of your valuables.

• REPORT suspicious individuals in stores immediately by calling 911 and by notifying management as well.
