The Northwest Indiana Symphony and conductor Kirk Muspratt present two great performances in April: Bass Ensemble, Sunday, April 6 at 2:30pm at the Theatre at the Center, and “Tchaikovsky!” one-night only, Friday, April 25 at 7:30 pm at the Auditorium at Living Hope Church featuring violinist Esme Arias-Kim.
The five members of the Symphony’s Bass section, Charles Ingrassia, John Tuck, Julian Pat Romane, Weldon Anderson, and Edward Randles, will present an afternoon of music and discussion featuring a mix of classical to contemporary pieces from Johann Strauss to John Williams! The musicians will also bring a variety of bass instruments from around the world to demonstrate. The concert is the last of the Symphony’s Spotlight Series which features intimate matinee performances at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster. Tickets are general admission seating, $30 for adults and $10 for students. There will be a post-concert meet and greet with the musicians.
Tchaikovsky! features two masterpieces from the famous Russian composer. Fresh from her appearance with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Esme Arias-Kim returns to perform the monumental Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Then, from the thunderous opening fanfare to the hauntingly beautiful melodies that follow, the Symphony No. 4 is a rollercoaster of emotions unlike any other.
“Esme has won competitions and played with some of the Big 10 orchestras, and we are just so honored to have such an amazing musician perform for you,” Maestro Kirk Muspratt said. “You asked me for more Tchaikovsky and more Esme and I am happy to deliver both!”
Maestro Muspratt will host a pre-concert discussion before the concert beginning at 6:15 pm to talk about the history and nuance of the pieces to be performed. The guest artist will also join the discussion. This talk is free to all ticket holders.
Tickets for the concert range from $45 -$79 each and students are $10. GROUP SALES ARE AVAILABLE AT A DISCOUNT. Call the Symphony office at (219) 836-0525 or visit the website at www.NISOrchestra.org to order tickets for Tchaikovsky!
