Public Narrative proudly enters its 35th year of championing impactful storytelling this year. And with that, we are excited to announce that nominations are now open for the 29th Annual Community Media Awards.

As we mark a significant milestone in our journey, the awards carry special resonance, honoring the voices and narratives that have shaped and enriched our communities.

The Community Media Awards have long stood as a testament to the power of community-centered journalism, recognizing those who excel in authentic, impactful storytelling.

This year, we invite nominations across four esteemed categories:

  • The Studs Terkel Award honors a comprehensive body of journalistic work that embodies the spirit of Louis "Studs" Terkel, a Chicago storytelling legend and PN's muse.
  • The Uplifting Voices Award celebrates media professionals who amplify underrepresented voices in their work.
  • The Ripple Effect Award acknowledges journalists whose work has significantly impacted beyond Chicago.
  • The People's Choice Award, now in its second year, empowers the public to recognize both youth and adult media makers who have positively impacted their communities.

We encourage you to participate in celebrating the exceptional talent in our community by nominating individuals who have demonstrated excellence in these areas. It's an opportunity to highlight those whose stories inspired and connected us.

Nominate your favorite media maker now.
