The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) is holding a 21-day public comment period on an amendment to the 2022-2026 Transportation Improvement Programs (TIP). The comment period ends on January 4, 2023. Amendment #22-08 contains various new projects for INDOT, and the City of LaPorte. Michigan City, Schererville, and Valparaiso wish to add funding and phases to the projects in those municipalities in Northwestern Indiana. Amendment #22-08.5 contains various projects for Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD or South Shore Line) in Northwestern Indiana.
NIRPC’s TIP is a short-range financial and spending plan for the utilization of federal transportation funding and for regionally significant projects. These federal funds can be used for highway, transit, and non-motorized transportation projects. NIRPC's TIP includes projects undertaken by municipalities, counties, transit operators, and the State of Indiana. Federal planning regulations guide the preparation and development of the TIP documents.

All comments received during the 21-day public comment period will be compiled into a public comment report and responded to. This report will be made available to the public and distributed to the relevant NIRPC committees prior to any action on these items. It is anticipated that action will be taken at the January 10th, 2023 meeting of the Technical Planning Committee, followed by the January 19th, 2023 meeting of the NIRPC Commission.
