Need to Know:
Teleconference at the Library
Griffith-Calumet Township and Lake Station-New Chicago Branches now have tele-appointment (aka teleconference) iPads available for use in the library!
Need to make a Zoom call? Have a virtual doctor's appointment? Book one of our small group rooms and an iPad and make your call in private.
Small group rooms and tele-appointment iPads are available for two hours at a time during library hours. Bookings may be made up to two months in advance. You must be at least 18 years of age with an LCPL library card, and will need to sign a brief waiver regarding security and privacy before your appointment begins.
Tele-appointment iPads are equipped with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and the Safari browser. Accommodations may be made for other apps; please contact the library at least 5 business days before your appointment to request other apps.
To book a study room and iPad, simply contact Griffith-Calumet Township or Lake Station-New Chicago by phone, in person, or via our Ask a Librarian form.

You Asked, We Answered!
Question: How can you teach English as a Second Language classes if you don't speak Spanish?
Answer: Our program has served people from 80 different countries, so we can't rely on translating from one language to another. Most language experts believe the best way to learn a new language is with an immersion method. This means to jump right in.
Not easy, right? So we speak slowly, use pictures, repeat, and demonstrate the meaning of words.
We start with the ABCs, days for the week/months/seasons/time/money and similar basics. We play games to lower inhibitions and make the process fun.
If you would like to join us, whether as a student or as a volunteer English teacher, call Rosella at 219-769-3541, ext 337.
