NDSF 2023 features Hamlet and The Book of Will

The Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival is thrilled to announce its 2023 season, featuring Hamlet, performed by the NDSF Professional Company and directed by Vanessa Morosco, and a staged reading of The Book of Will, written by Lauren Gunderson. The Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival’s Touring Company will return in 2024. Tickets go on sale spring 2023.

Hamlet, directed by Vanessa Morosco

One of Shakespeare’s greatest and most iconic tales, Hamlet returns to the Patricia George Decio Theatre in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, August 15-27, 2023. Shakespeare’s powerful tale of a Danish prince torn apart by forces both natural and supernatural continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. Intense, gripping, and ultimately extraordinarily moving, Hamlet is a compelling examination of a spirit in crisis.

Vanessa Morosco is a director, actor, and ethicist based out of New York City, whose extensive credits include productions for the American Shakespeare Center, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Southwest Shakespeare Company, and many more. Her all-female production of Othello won the BroadwayWorld Phoenix Best Play of 2019 award.

The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson, directed by Grant Mudge

The perfect play for casual audiences and Shakespeare aficionados alike, Lauren Gunderson’s The Book of Will has been delighting audiences ever since its 2017 premiere. Gunderson’s warmly hilarious tale of the efforts of Shakespeare’s buddies to preserve the playwright’s legacy blends some of his greatest passages into a delightful mixture of comedy and pathos. The Book of Will comes to the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center in a two-night staged reading in August 2023. Performance dates and more information to be announced soon.

Auditions for the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival will take place January 27 & 28 at the University of Notre Dame, and January 29 in Chicago. An informational session for the NDSF Apprentice Program will take place in mid-January. Visit shakespeare.nd.edu or our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages for more information.
