
The National Hellenic Museum (NHM) in Chicago’s historic Greektown neighborhood is excited to continue its Saturday morning Family Story Time series at the Museum this spring, sharing stories of the ancient Greek gods alongside related crafts and activities for children. Events are free to attend with advance registration on NHM’s Eventbrite page HERE, and include admission to all current exhibitions at the Museum.
Upcoming Family Story Time programs at NHM (333 S. Halsted Street) include Hades: The Lord of the Dead on Saturday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m.; Athena: The Goddess of Wisdom on Saturday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m.; and Apollo: The God of Everything on Saturday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m.

Continuing this exploration of mythology, the Museum is also hosting a Young Readers Book Club online throughout April and May, featuring the New York Times bestselling series Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan. Free registration is available on Eventbrite HERE.
NHM’s mission is to share Greek history, art, culture, and the Greek American story in relevant and engaging ways. Through the Family Story Time series and Young Readers Book Club, the Museum helps young people make connections between the past and present, while exploring the lasting relevance of ancient Greek stories and themes.

Picture Perfect: A Photography Workshop with Diane Alexander White
Saturday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. (Registration HERE)
Led by featured NHM artist Diane Alexander White (Gather Together: Chicago Street Photography), this hands-on photography workshop for families will teach kids creative techniques to capture unique perspectives. Pulling inspiration from the Gather Together exhibit, kids will explore lighting, composition, and storytelling through their lenses. Note: participants must bring their own camera, cell phone or other photography device.
Star Gazing, Constellation Mapping and Greek Myths
Saturday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. (Registration HERE)
Students will learn about the myths surrounding the constellations first mapped by the Ancient Greek philosopher Hipparchus. This event takes place on the summer solstice so attendees can go home and look at the constellations they just learned about. Attendees will make their own constellations on canvas to take home and enjoy.
