The Munster Police Department and Choice Community Council were recently notified that Munster’s 2019 National Night Out Against Crime Celebration, which was held last August 6th, was ranked as the 8th best National Night Out event in the United States in the 15,000-50,000 population category, and that Munster was the only Indiana community that was nationally ranked by the National Association of Town Watch.

The National Night Out Against Crime is celebrated in thousands of communities each August throughout the United States to promote police and community partnerships. Last year’s event was Munster’s largest one ever, with thousands of residents participating throughout the evening in a variety of activities at the Munster Community Pool such as free swimming for residents, door prizes, kids games, bounce houses, a magic show, train rides, emergency vehicle displays, snow cones, a helicopter landing, over 120 booth participants, music, food, and an awesome closing fireworks show sponsored by Krazy Kaplan’s Fireworks.
In addition, we also held four days of pre-events leading up to the main National Night Out event last year. These included a Safety Bingo event for senior citizens at the Munster Social Center, a canned food drive at the police station, a child safety seat check at the station, and a Charity Softball Game that raised funds for Munster High School’s Best Buddies Club.
The Munster Police Department would like to thank the many dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors, booth participants, student groups, and attendees who helped to make last year’s National Night Out event the best one yet.
We look forward to getting started with plans for our 25th Anniversary event which will be held on August 4, 2020 at the Munster Community Pool. For more information about how you can get involved this year, please contact Officer James Ghrist at 219-836-6639 or jghrist@munster.org.
