On November 8th, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Indiana held their annual Awards Breakfast at the Governor’s Mansion in Indianapolis. During this annual event, awards are presented in front of D.A.R.E. Indiana administrators, state D.A.R.E. Officers, and state government officials. Indiana State Senator Michael Crider was this year’s guest speaker for the event.
We are excited to announce that two Munster students (Christian S. and Laein C.) were presented with top honors during the awards ceremony. Both students participated in the core curriculum of the Munster Police Department’s D.A.R.E. Program this past spring while they were students at Eads Elementary School.
Christian was presented with the 2023 D.A.R.E. Indiana Essay of the Year Award and read his essay out loud to the attendees (pictured right). Each of the 90-plus D.A.R.E. Officers in Indiana are invited to submit one essay to represent their community and Christian’s was selected as the top essay in the state.
Laein was selected as the 2023 D.A.R.E. Indiana Poster Contest Grand Prize Winner. Her winning poster was enlarged (pictured left) and will be displayed at Eads School for years to come. Both students received plaques from D.A.R.E. Indiana.
Congratulations to Christian and Laein on receiving these great honors and for their commitment to staying drug-free. The Munster Police Department’s D.A.R.E. Program is presented to approximately 2,000 students in grades K-8 each year and has run strong since 1988 thanks to great support from our community.
