The Munster Police Department’s Senior Citizen Welfare Check Program was started in 2016 and allows seniors who are residents of Munster to be contacted during times of severe weather (cold, heat, disaster) to check on their well-being.
If contact cannot be made with the resident, attempts are made with emergency contacts and an officer will be dispatched in an attempt to make physical contact at the program participant’s residence. This program is especially encouraged for senior citizens who are residing by themselves or who may not have any relatives who live nearby, however, any senior citizen who would like to enroll in the program is welcome to do so. Authorized family members (with power of attorney) wishing to enroll a relative into the program can do so as well.
Enrollment forms can be downloaded from www.munster.org/police.
