Munster Neighborhoods Encouraged to Set-Up Block Parties for Saturday, July 30th

As part of our National Night Out week’s pre-events, we encourage our residents to organize individual block parties for Saturday, July 30th as a way of promoting unity in your respective neighborhoods.

In an effort to promote the organization of parties on that date, the Munster Town Council passed a resolution this past week which waives the usual $250 block party deposit and $100 barricade delivery fee for July 30th only. Block parties can be set at any time during that day but must conclude by no later than 10:00pm.

On that date, teams of Munster Police officers will be visiting each of the registered block parties throughout the day and evening to interact with the public in a positive way, to listen to concerns, to pass out flyers for the main National Night Out event, and to look out for the following criteria:

• Overall participation from the block

• Planned activities for the participants

• Positive neighborhood spirit and unity

The top block party will then be recognized during the main National Night Out event on August 2nd and several signs similar to the one pictured will be posted on the winning block on a later date.

PARTICIPATING BLOCK PARTIES MUST REGISTER BY WEDNESDAY, JULY 6TH by contacting Officer James Ghrist at 219-836-6639 or jghrist@munster.org with your contact person’s name, the area of your party, the approximate number of participants, and any other important information.

Please make plans with your neighbors to be a part of our town-wide block parties on July 30th!
