The Munster Police Department would like to thank the Munster Junior Woman’s Club for organizing and hosting a great fundraising event Saturday, February 24th at 313 Taproom to provide Ben’s Blue Bags for each of the police department’s patrol cars. These bags contain sensory items that can be used to help individuals with autism relax, refocus, and calm themselves during over-stimulation events.
We also greatly appreciate the large number of participants, including several state and town officials, who attended the event that day to help support this important autism awareness project for our town.
Special thanks to MJWC member Jennifer Fane for supervising this event, musician Eli Hernandez for providing live music, 313 Taproom for providing their excellent venue, The Original John’s Pizzeria, Miss Print, and the basket item sponsors. Congratulations as well to the winners!
Our police officers will soon also be attending special training on autism awareness provided by Ben’s Blue Bags founder (and Crown Point firefighter) Matt Kodicek, who named the program after his own 10-year old son Ben.
The Munster Junior Woman’s Club is a regular, generous sponsor of many of our community policing programs and events throughout the year while also supporting other events and causes in the region as well. Thank you again to everyone for helping to make this awesome event successful!
