Tue, 02/02/2021 - 4:53pm by laughingcat

It contains announcements and news and statistics for the 4th quarter of 2020 as well as all of 2020 in comparison to previous years. Please note the following important items that are displayed in the presentation: • The total number of burglaries for 2020 was approximately 70% lower than the total from 10 years ago. • The total number of thefts, including shoplifting incidents, are down approximately 53% from the total from 10 years ago. About 37% of the 4th quarter thefts involved theft from vehicle incidents. • The total number of vandalisms in 2020 is approximately 67% less than the total from 10 years ago. • Unfortunately, the total number of auto thefts spiked this year with about half of the total number taking place during the final three months of the year. 71% of the auto thefts involved vehicles that were either left unlocked with the keys inside overnight or which were left running and unlocked outside of a home or business (86% of these types of incidents took place in the business districts). Only 25% of the total auto thefts involved forced entry. • During the final three months of the year, approximately 61% of the thefts from vehicle incidents involved unlocked vehicles with only 17% involving forced entry and 22% involving stolen license plates. 82% of the thefts from vehicle incidents took place in the residential areas. Please help to eliminate crimes of opportunity by locking your vehicles, removing the keys and other valuables from inside, and by never leaving vehicles running and unlocked outside of a business or in front of your residence. Please also maintain vigilance and avoid walking alone at night and to shop, bike, or walk with family members so that you can look out for each other.
