McAninch Arts Center (MAC) hosts “The Music of Billy Joel and Elton John” starring Michael Cavanaugh at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 12. The iconic hits of the two classic rock legends will fill the MAC’s Belushi Performance Hall in this concert performed by the acclaimed piano-and-vocal talent hand-picked by Billy Joel himself to star in the hit Broadway musical “Movin’ Out.”
Cavanaugh has been hailed as the “New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook” (Billboard) and the “The New Piano Man” (Broadway World). Accompanied by a five-piece band, he will perform hits including “Tiny Dancer,” “Uptown Girl,” “Your Song,” “New York State of Mind,” “Yellow Brick Road,” “Rocket Man,” “The Piano Man" and more. “For those of us that remember the classic versions of these songs, Michael Cavanaugh has reinvented them into something that dare I say sometimes improves upon the originals,” says Maryland Theatre Guide.
Cavanaugh brought audiences to their feet in over 1,200 performances of the Broadway musical “Movin’ Out,” and was honored with both Grammy and Tony Award nominations. Since then, Cavanaugh has become one of the hottest artists worldwide performing at private events, company and charity events, performing arts centers and major sporting events including PGA Tour events, the Super Bowl, and the Indy 500. In 2020, he reached the POLLSTAR Live75, the top 75 active touring acts in the country, for both his symphony and Performing Arts Center shows.
