
Alec Craig scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first after reaching on an error. Matt Bottcher drove home Craig with a groundout and Clint Hardy followed with an RBI single to score William Salas as the Boomers jumped ahead 2-0. Middendorf cruised from there. After walking three in the first two frames, the righty, who won his third of the year, carried a no-hitter into the sixth, Nick Oddo homered in the second to extend the lead. Gateway’s lone run came in the seventh on a solo homer from Peter Zimmermann.
Middendorf (3-1) threw eight innings, striking out 11 and surrendering just one run on three hits. Middendorf has struck out 10 or more batters in three consecutive outings. Darrell Thompson worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth by striking out three to tally his second save of the season. Salas and Thomas DeBonville each recorded a pair of hits for the Boomers (13-9).
