EXHIBITION SUMMARY

‘What do you believe?’ is a show about self-reflection, understanding, and looking within to find your meanings. Primarily inspired by the aesthetics of stained-glass windows in cathedrals and their display, this vibrant body of work draws the viewer into a world of wonder and self-reflection. Emerging artist Alejandra Mosqueda works in graphite, ink pen, and color pencil to produce scroll-like drawings in which saints and holy figures are portrayed; she creates her own interpretation of the imagery and symbolism.

Mosqueda is based in Gary, Indiana, and graduated with a BFA from Indiana University Northwest (2023). Her artwork explores several concepts related to the human experience. “One consistent visual throughout my work,” says Mosqueda, “is a humanoid figure meant to portray an array of ideas floating in my mind. My artistic process primarily involves finding inspiration within personal experiences or by simply observing the world around me. The focus of my art, whether on a large or small scale, is to help the viewer find their own unique viewpoint and understanding as they contemplate each piece. “

Alejandra Mosqueda has exhibited around the region, including Paul Henry in Hammond, Indiana, Union Street Gallery in Chicago Heights, IL, and as part of Crete Creative in Crete, Illinois. This is her second solo exhibit.

The exhibit opens June 12 with an opening reception from 6 – 8 pm and an artist talk on Sunday, June 28, at 1 pm. These events are free and open to the public.
