The sounds of Mexican Mariachi music starred on stage recently at The Auditorium Theatre in Chicago.

Music fans recently had the opportunity to enjoy a performance by the popular Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan when the group brought its 2025 EL Legato Tour show to Chicago. It proved to be a night mixing exuberant, romantic and melodious sounds that easily drew audience members in.

Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, which was founded in 1897 by Maestro Gaspar Vargas in Jalisco, Mexico, is considered the premiere Mariachi organization around the globe. The group is known as “El major Mariachi del mundo” or the greatest Mariachi in the world.

Opening for Mariachi Vargas at The Auditorium was Lupita Infante, who offered a 40-minute spirited set. Infante is the daughter of late actor Pedro Infante Jr. and the granddaughter of the famed late Pedro Infante.

During Mariachi Vargas’ concert, audience members cheered and applauded throughout as the group offered up a mix of tunes.

Among highlighted song selections were “Viva Mexico,” “Cielito Lindo,” “El Triste” and “El Jarabe Tapatio.”

The group’s vocals as well as its performances on the strings and horns were stellar. Mariachi Vargas’ show, which ran a little over three hours, also included performances by dancers wearing traditional Mexican costumes. Videos were also shown on a screen behind the group throughout the concert.

There’s definitely much to see and hear at any Mariaci Vargas concert. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy them next time they’re in town.
