“As we welcome students back to the building this fall, safety is our top priority, “ says Hannah Hammond-Hagman, LCA’s Education Director. “We have instituted new policies and procedures at every level for our students, instructors and classroom spaces. We have also increased our virtual offerings for those that are not yet ready to return for face to face instruction.”
Along with increased cleaning practices, classrooms have been reconfigured and enrollment capacities have been lowered to insure social distancing. All students and instructors must wear a mask or face covering while in the building, and a temporary outdoor classroom is also available for instruction. LCA’s fall session begins Monday September 21st, and most classes run for six weeks. Adult offerings include in-person instruction in drawing and painting, as well as new Mixed Media Exploration class taught by Michelle Wiser where students can discover and incorporate a wide variety of media including ink, collage and watercolor with their artworks. There is also an online embroidery class taught by Laurel Izard that will explore the joys of stitching and basic technique while building community.
Young artists can explore a host of online weekly classes including Comic Book Storytelling, Drawing, Pet Portraits and more. A series of three online Maker Workshops for ages 10 and up—adults included!-- will explore adding circuits to simple art projects, including paper and wearable circuits. These are fun for the whole family! Supplies for all kids’ classes and the Maker workshops are included with tuition, and supply kits will be available for pick up from LCA prior to the first class or workshop. There is also an in-person children’s class on Friday mornings called Friday Art Discoveries for students who are distance learning or homeschooling this fall.
“We hope you and your family will decide to spend some creative time this fall with LCA, either in person or remotely. In
these uncertain times, we want to offer space for reflection, respite and fun,” says Hammond-Hagman.
Scholarships are available for all LCA classes and workshops to help eliminate barriers and ensure everyone in the community has access to compelling arts experiences. To register, visit www.lubeznikcenter.org or call (219) 874-4900.
