Lowell Trooper Named 2024 Trooper of the Year

Indianapolis- On Tuesday, Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott named Trooper Kaylee G. Galvan the 2024 Indiana State Police Trooper of the Year. This is a historic event as Trooper Galvan is the first female in the history of the Indiana State Police to receive this distinct honor. Trooper Galvan is a two-year Trooper and in 2024, was a midnight unit assigned to the Lowell District’s Zone 1, which is Lake County.

Trooper Galvan assisted with Basic Concepts of Policing (BCOP) at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy for the 86th Recruit Academy, and her extensive hands-on experience in the field made her an obvious asset to work with and mentor recruits. Trooper Galvan has mentored teenagers in her church’s youth group and has attended multiple public appearances at her church that directly affects her community.

In 2024, Trooper Galvan had 1,868 total traffic contacts (1,129 citations and 739 warnings), 154 criminal defendants, 484 criminal charges, 80 felony charges, 118 O.W.I. arrests, 22 felony O.W.I. arrests, 95 crash investigations, 181 police services, and conducted 91 vehicle searches.  Trooper Galvan also worked special project hours (overtime shifts) resulting in 188 traffic contacts with 123 citations and 65 warnings, 21 criminal defendants, 54 criminal charges, 18 O.W.I. arrests, and 1 felony O.W.I. arrest. 

Trooper Galvan is a reliable and hardworking trooper whose field performance far exceeded her squad goals and expectations. She possesses a strong knowledge of traffic and criminal codes as well as departmental policies and regulations. Trooper Galvan exhibits the qualities of a professional and dedicated Indiana State Trooper who enjoys coming to work every day.

Also at the awards ceremony, Trooper Galvan received the 2024 Life Award in recognition for exceeding expectations by removing 118 impaired drivers off Indiana roadways in 2024. Trooper Galvan’s superior expertise, knowledge, ability, and work ethic were vital in keeping our communities and state safe in this critical enforcement effort. This enforcement activity led to Trooper Galvan being the #1 DUI enforcer within the Indiana State Police and exemplifies the unsurpassed professionalism and integrity expected of an Indiana State Trooper.
