
January 9, 2025, thirty newly appointed Indiana State Troopers graduated from the 86th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. Five of these troopers are being assigned to the Indiana State Police Lowell Post and will begin their next phase of training, a three-month field training period, riding with veteran troopers. The purpose of the field training is to put into practical application the training received over the duration of the formal academy.
Upon successful completion of field training, each trooper will be assigned a state police patrol vehicle and will begin solo patrol. These troopers have already completed over 1,100 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques as well as hands-on and scenario-based training at the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. The curriculum included criminal law instruction, emergency vehicle operations, psychology, traffic law, crash investigation, self-defense, first responder, and other general enforcement related training.
Trooper Amanda Parker is from Astoria, Illinois, which is in Central Illinois. She graduated from Astoria High School and went on to attend Indiana Institute of Technology where she majored in Criminal Justice and minored in psychology. Her hobbies include outdoor activities including hunting and fishing, shooting, wood working, music and working out. She resides in Lake County.
Trooper Jaylen Holt-Terry is from Bolingbrook, Illinois, which is southwest of Chicago. He graduated from Bolingbrook High School in 2019. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, as well as fishing in the summer months. He now resides in Lake County.
Trooper Adam Pratt is from Fountain County, Indiana, where he attended Western Boone High School in Boone County. He went on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Community Health and completed his master’s degree in Healthcare Management in May of 2024. His hobbies include playing basketball, weightlifting, and collecting comic books. He now resides in Lake County.
Trooper James J. Williams II is from South Bend, Indiana and is a graduate of John Adams High School also in South Bend. James’ hobbies include collecting basically all types of cards including basketball, football, baseball, soccer, WWE, Pokémon, and Yu-gi-oh cards. Trooper Williams will reside in Porter County.
Trooper Caleb Somerville is a native of Kentucky, where he graduated from Estill County High School. He went on to study Homeland Security at Eastern Kentucky University and is working towards completing his bachelor's degree. He is also a sergeant in the Army National Guard, currently serving, and has completed one deployment. He enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. He now resides in Lake County.
