Legacy Foundation recently announced a round of funding totaling $548,270 to 34 organizations. The fall grant cycle began in October 2021 and closed November 2021. Legacy Foundation’s grants committee recommends awards through a competitive application and review process. Legacy’s Board of Directors approves the committee’s grant recommendations in December.

“Nonprofits continue to serve our communities through tough times, and often the demand for their services increases,” said Legacy Foundation Vice President Kelly Anoe. “We are fortunate to be able to support organizations helping Lake County’s residents and neighborhoods when they need it most.”

Legacy Foundation’s fall grants awards combine funding from four programs: Transform Lake County, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Fund, and Thriving Hobart Seniors, and Women in Philanthropy.
The Transform Lake County program focuses on the most pressing challenges facing Lake County. Knight Foundation funding seeks to build on resources and assets in downtown Gary to create informed and engaged citizens. Funds for the Thriving Hobart Seniors program are concentrated on increasing quality of life for senior citizens in Hobart. Women in Philanthropy funding focused on reducing barriers to accessing healthcare and promoting economic empowerment.
