LCSO presents Hoosier Star on Sept 14

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra will perform its Annual Hoosier Star concert and vocal competition, now in its 19th year, on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 7:00 pm at the La Porte Civic Auditorium, 1001 Ridge St., La Porte. Tickets can be purchased online here for $25 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets will also be available at the door. Doors open to the public at 6:00 pm.

11 finalists from the youth division and 10 finalists from the adult division will compete for the top honor of being named Hoosier Star. Each finalist will sing a piece of their choice, accompanied by the LCSO. Celebrity judges for this year's event include Matt Fuller, Jordan Dollins, and Melanie Dorn Kraut. Audience members will also have the opportunity to cast their vote for their favorite finalist!

Finalists for this year's competition were chosen in March through a selective audition process. They are: Youth Division- Olivia & Selah Branco (duet), La Porte; Sophia Grubbs, Elkhart; Bayleigh Miller, La Porte; Charles Nwakanma, Fort Wayne; and Chloe Virijevich, Kouts. Adult Division - Alyssa Atkinson, South Bend; Lindsey Brown, La Porte; Noah Garcia, Hammond; Cynthia O'Heran, La Porte; and Max Principe, La Porte.

About the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra is a cornerstone of the vibrant arts landscape in Northwest Indiana. The orchestra serves the 110,000 residents of La Porte County and regions beyond, including Southwest Michigan. Now in its 52nd season, the LCSO has grown from a small community orchestra into a dynamic, professional organization of 60 musicians serving audiences from seven counties. Each year, the orchestra presents four subscription concerts, in addition to the Hoosier Star and Holiday at the Pops concerts. The LCSO's music education programming includes the annual Drayton Family Children's Education Concerts, which serve over 5,000 students each year, in addition to a Student Apprentice Program for high school musicians and numerous collaborations with area schools.
