The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present its opening subscription concert, Dia de Muertos, on Saturday, November 2 at 7:00 pm at the La Porte Civic Auditorium. The concert opens the LCSO's 52nd season, which will see four subscription concerts, plus Holiday at the Pops, presented over the next six months.

LCSO Music Director and Conductor Dr. Carolyn Watson will lead the November 2 program, which features music from four Mexican composers and one Spanish composer. The concert celebrates the Mexican cultural holiday Dia de Muertos, or "Day of the Dead", a traditional fiesta in honor of the deceased, where communities gather to celebrate by dancing, playing music, feasting, and masquerading as death. The program includes Kauyumari, by living composer Gabriela Ortiz, Carlos Chavez's Sinfonia India No. 2, Jose Pablo Moncayo's Huapango, and another piece by a living Mexican composer, Arturo Marquez's Danzon No. 2. The showpiece of the program is the famous classical guitar solo concerto Concerto de Aranjuez by Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo, which will feature guest artist Guido Sanchez-Portuguez as guitar soloist.

Purdue University Northwest Office of Hispanic Serving Institutions will host pre-concert activities for people of all ages, with a special performance at 6:15 pm from Ballet Folklorico Tapatio, a traditional Mexican dance troupe from Hobart, IN. Doors open at 6:00 pm and a cash bar and concessions will be available.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.lcso.net/event/dia-de-muertos/. Adult balcony $25, Senior (60+) balcony $22, Table Seat on floor $35. Children and Students with ID FREE. Tickets will also be available at the door.
