LCSO opens 50th Anniversary Season on November 5th

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) will open its 50th Anniversary Season with “AMERICANA,” a salute to American Composers on Saturday, November 5th, 7:00 p.m., at La Porte’s Civic Auditorium.

The concert will open with Aaron Copland’s iconic Fanfare for the Common Man followed by Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman.  The first half of the concert will round out with selections from Copland’s Rodeo.

For the second half of the concert, Music Director Dr. Carolyn Watson and the LCSO will be joined by three incredibly professional and talented vocalists who will delight the audience with their renditions from Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess and Bernstein’s West Side Story. Soloists are Amanda Sheriff, Soprano; Alexander Scheuermann, Tenor; and Nicholas Davis, Bass-Baritone. More information about this concert can be found at: https://lcso.net/event/opening-subscription-americana/

An Instrument Petting Zoo will be conducted from 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. on the main floor of the Civic Auditorium with LCSO musicians demonstrating the various instruments for potential young musicians. This activity is sponsored by Quinlan & Fabish Music Company.

This concert will also include five musically talented high schoolers who will serve as student apprentices for the 2022-2023 season. They are Kyra Krachinski, Flute, of Michigan City High School; Zach Kabacinksi, Trumpet; Berrek Ohime, Trumpet; and Eliott Yrastorza of La Porte High School and Theo Smith, Tuba, of La Lumiere School.

Single balcony tickets are $22.00 for Adults and $20.00 for Seniors (60 and older). Students are admitted for free. Tickets can be purchased by going to: https://lcso.net/event/opening-subscription-americana/ or Roxy Music in La Porte. Tickets will also be available at the door the evening of the concert. Doors to the Civic Auditorium will open at 6:00 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7:00 p.m. (CDT).
