You Asked, We Answered!
Question: What's the difference between 8mm movie film and Super 8 movie film? (Asked often since we convert both to digital in the Libratory)
Answer: 8mm film was introduced in the early 1930s as a cost-effective alternative to 16mm and marketed to home movie-makers.
Super 8 came along in the mid-'60s as an improvement on 8mm: it was easier to load, and the Super 8 frame size is much larger than regular 8mm, despite the film stocks being the same width (the sprocket holes on Super 8 film are much smaller, allowing for a larger frame on the film).
The larger frame size means that Super 8 often looks better than 8mm.
