Volunteers Needed for Friends Annual Book Sale

Volunteers will be rewarded with warm fuzzy feelings... and first crack at the books for sale. We need help setting up on August 6 and help during the sale itself August 8-10.

Ask a LibrarianQuestion:  I was watching a program about the Titanic, and it mentioned a boat named the Carpathia which was responsible saving the lives of most of the survivors. Can you tell me more about the Carpathia?

Answer: Sure! Aside from its role in rescuing Titanic survivors, here is some information on the Carpathia:

In WWI, the Carpathia served as an Allied transport. On July 17, 1918, it was struck by three torpedoes from a German U-boat and sank. Five people were killed; the rest of the passengers and crew were rescued by the HMS Snowdrop.

In 1999 the wreck of the Carpathia was discovered intact and lying upright at a depth of more than 500 feet.
