The Libratory is LCPL's makerspace, located at Merrillville Branch! It's open to cardholders in our library district at no cost other than materials used (if any). And now, for a small fee, non-residents can use it, too!
Try out our sublimation printer and heat press to make a custom mug or coaster. Or check out a cool Cricut project from Creativebug and then use our Cricut Maker 3 to cut it to size! Thinking of starting a podcast? Discover your voice in our WhisperRoom recording booth!

September is Library Card Sign Up Month!
Kids who show their library card at their favorite branch this month will get a cute sticker for their card, a magnetic puppy or kitten bookmark, and an entry into a drawing for a $10 gift card!

Question: My 15-year-old child doesn't like to read. Do you offer any special programs to promote reading to teenagers?
Answer: The library offers a program called 100 Books Before Graduation in which students in grades 6-12 earn prizes as they read! Prizes are awarded at 25, 50, 75, and 100 books.
A reluctant reader might enjoy graphic novels since they have beautiful illustrations and less text on one page compared to a traditional novel.
Kids and teens may also want to try an audiobook. Listening to an audiobook while doing chores, on a lunch break, or through the car speakers is an easy way to incorporate reading into your life.
Maybe after warming up with graphic novels and audiobooks, the reluctant reader might be open to the idea of reading a traditional novel. If not, that's just fine because graphic novels and audiobooks also count toward completing 100 Books Before Graduation—reading is reading!
