Need to Know:

A Plow PSA

A plow kicking up large drifts of snowWith winter well underway, remember that you're sharing the roads and parking lots with large, heavy pieces of machinery with a lot of blind spots. That's right, we mean plows! Here are a few things to keep in mind when navigating parking lots and roads, whether on foot or in a vehicle:

  • Plow drivers can't see you. (Except when... NO! Always assume they can't see you!)
  • Plows cannot stop quickly - and if it's plow weather, neither can you. Give them space.
  • Listen for the backup beep and get out of the way.
  • Don't drive or walk distracted.

Our plow operators are trained professionals, but we can help them out a lot by keeping these tips in mind. Remember: When there's ice and snow, take it slow - and don't crowd the plow!

Ask a LibrarianQuestion: What restaurants preceded Asparagus Restaurant at 7876 Broadway in Merrillville?

Answer: Searching the Haines Director (a.k.a. Criss-Cross Directory), the restaurants that occupied the address were The Odyssey (1980-2001), The Embers (2001), Balagio (2004-2007) and Asparagus (2008-present).

The Haines Directory lists street names alphabetically so users can find the property owner and contact information. The library carries issues from 1977 - 2021. The library also includes the Polk Directories (1999 - current) as an added residential and business reference resource.
