Question: My child has been attending a support group for LGBTQ+ teens in another county, but we're hoping to find something closer. Does the library know of any locations or organizations near or in Lake County that offer groups for queer youth?
Answer: Thanks for your question! In fact, Merrillville Branch has been running a group for LGBTQ+ teens and their allies for the last few years. We work in cooperation with our local chapter of PFLAG, and the group meetings are designed to be a safe space for teens to discuss topics they're interested in, find support, and network with other young people of similar experience.
We meet every second Tuesday at 6pm at the Merrillville Branch Library. This summer, we have extra meetings on June 25th and July 23rd.
If these times don't work for you, we can recommend a few other organizations that run similar programs for youths.
