You Asked, We Answered!
Question: I'm looking for a book but can't remember the title or author. It was about a local murder that happened sometime in the 1920s during Prohibition. A bootlegger killed his wealthy wife and tried to blame it on someone else.
Answer: A Jazz Age Murder In Northwest Indiana: The Tragic Betrayal of Nettie Diamond, c2015, is a true-crime account by Jane Simon Ammeson of a case matching your description.
This book by a local author about a local crime explores some of the violence and racial tensions that pervaded this region during the era of Prohibition. She even used local resources for her research. Check out the shout-out to LCPL's Merrillville Branch in Chapter 1!
