Opportunity Enterprises (OE) clients recently completed a unique art project made from upcycled cassette tapes, which they have donated to Mixtape Social Kitchen, a local restaurant known for its nostalgic 1980s ambiance. The piece was received enthusiastically by Chef Cory Muro, owner of Mixtape and a long-time supporter of OE’s mission. As a celebrated local eatery, Mixtape is dedicated to celebrating the best of the past while creating an inclusive environment for all, making it the perfect new home for this innovative art piece.

The artwork, a 34x44 framed piece, was a collaborative effort by OE clients who participate in the Daily Living Skills Day Program and Ben Dunn who is OE’s curriculum imagineer, a position that helps guide creative and artistic projects throughout the organization. The clients gathered, repurposed, and arranged cassette tapes into an eye-catching art piece that embodies both creativity and nostalgia. Through OE’s art programs, clients develop and showcase their talents, often sharing their work with the local community through different exhibits, mainly as a result of OE’s partnership with the Art Barn School of Art. The cassette tape art piece aligns with OE’s mission of providing meaningful experiences and visibility for clients within their communities. This project also allows clients to creatively engage with themes of the past, bringing a refreshing piece of retro art to a beloved community space. After created, Stephanie Anderson, chief human resources Officer for OE, immediately knew the artwork needed to be showcased at the restaurant. She did not hesitate contacting chef and owner of the restaurant, Cory Muro.

Chef Cory Muro expressed his enthusiasm about the new artwork: “At Mixtape, we’re all about honoring the spirit of the '80s and creating a space where people feel connected. This cassette tape art piece from Opportunity Enterprises' clients is a perfect fit. It’s meaningful and memorable, and it makes me proud to support such talented individuals. I look forward to seeing our guests enjoy it as much as I do.”

Opportunity Enterprises is dedicated to providing unique, hands-on opportunities for the people the organization serves, empowering them to engage with community and showcase their abilities. This partnership with Mixtape highlights OE’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and creativity for its clients within local spaces.
