At the request of the White County Sheriff’s Department, the Indiana State Police is investigating a police officer involved shooting.
Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives revealed that yesterday (6/15/2021) evening at approximately 9:20 p.m., Deputies with the White County Sheriff’s Department, The Monon Town Marshal, and a Wolcott Town Deputy Marshal, went to 403 West Anderson Street in Wolcott, IN to serve an arrest warrant on Perry Boyd, 56, Wolcott, IN. When deputies arrived on scene, they located Boyd, who retreated into the residence. After Deputies made entry into the residence, there was an exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and Boyd. A Wolcott Town Marshal and Boyd were both struck by gunfire. Deputies immediately began rendering medical aid to the Wolcott Town Marshal and Boyd until EMS arrived on scene. The Wolcott Town Marshal was transported to a Lafayette area hospital with non-life-threating injures. Boyd was transported by EMS to a Monticello area hospital for an awaiting helicopter. Upon arriving at the hospital Boyd succumbed to his injuries.
The Indiana State Police will not be releasing the identities of the officers involved in this incident until the White County Prosecutor has reviewed the completed case investigation and subsequently authorizes the release of that information.
This is an active and ongoing criminal investigation by the Indiana State Police. Once the criminal investigation is complete, the investigation will be turned over to the White County Prosecutor for review and determination of charges, if any, to be filed.
