Clinton County – The Indiana State Police are investigating a pursuit that culminated in an officer-involved shooting.
A preliminary investigation by detectives from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post indicates that just after 9:30 a.m. this morning, troopers were alerted to a vehicle driven by a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide in Ohio. Troopers located the suspect’s vehicle, a black Chevrolet Cruze, traveling northbound on I-65 near the 149-mile marker and attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver failed to comply, initiating a pursuit.
The pursuit continued northbound to the 158-mile marker, where the vehicle exited onto State Road 28. It came to a stop on County Road 800 W, just south of State Road 28. At that point, a shot was fired from the vehicle and by troopers.
Indiana State Police SWAT arrived on the scene and approached the vehicle using an armored vehicle. Upon entry, SWAT officers discovered a deceased individual inside the vehicle. No other occupants were found. During the course of the investigation, a firearm was recovered from inside the suspect’s vehicle.
The deceased has been identified by the Clinton County Coroner as Terea Brown, 42, from Cincinnati, OH. Brown was wanted for questioning in connection with a homicide investigation out of Springfield, OH. Any inquiries related to that investigation should be directed to the Springfield Police Department.
The two troopers who discharged their firearms during the incident have been identified as Sergeant Jonathan Haugh, a 10-year veteran, and Trooper Joseph Malone, an 8-year veteran. Both officers were equipped with body cameras and dash cameras at the time of the incident. In accordance with department policy, they have been placed on administrative leave.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division. Once complete, the findings will be submitted to the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office for review. There was no on else injured during this event.
The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by Indiana State Police SWAT, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, Frankfort Police Department, Lebanon Police Department, Clinton County EMS, the Clinton County Coroner’s Office, and the ATF.
