Indiana Archaeology Month (September) will be here before we know it. Is your organization planning on hosting an archaeology-related event of some type, and the event will be open to the public? If so, now is the time to begin submitting event forms to the DHPA.
Completing and returning the form will ensure that the Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology (DHPA) can help advertise your Archaeology Month activities.
Archaeology Months in the United States are designed to generate understanding and support for archaeology. As stated by the Society for American Archaeology, “the associated events generally involve educational experiences for the public and schools that promote the preservation of archaeological resources and illustrate the scientific profess of the discipline.”
Reach out to Amy Johnson, the DHPA’s Archaeology Outreach Coordinator, at ajohnson@dnr.IN.gov if you have questions, or need ideas for possible types of events/archaeology activities to host.
