EXHIBITION SUMMARY
Fifteen artists take on the theme of illumination in the Miller Beach Arts and Creative District’s annual community art show. Now in its fourth year, the MBACD community art show has become a tradition for the institution. Curated by Teresina Pavel, the exhibit encompasses the artistic range of work present in the Gary community, with work from professional and amateur artists at all points in their creative careers and lives. “Each artist is showing in our gallery for the first time,” says executive director Julia Gibbs, “making this exhibit a unique celebration of the creativity in our community.” From work ablaze with intensity to work that enlightens, our exhibitors bring light into the winter season!
In addition to the gallery exhibit, the experimental group Digitally Correct Meta-Troubadours (D.C.M.T) will perform on January 11. Musicians David Hunter, Greg O’Drobinak, and Mike Becker create free-flowing compositions that use a wide range of unusual instrumentation, from flutes, dombra, alp horn, and zither to the hurdy-gurdy and digital sound processing to create their improvisational pieces.
The opening reception will be held on December 6 from 5 to 8 p.m., and an artist talk will be held on December 15 at 2 p.m. D.C.M.T. will perform on January 11 at 7 p.m. Exhibits at the Marshall J Gardner Center for the Arts are free and open to the public.
