Indiana closed its non-conference slate with a third straight dominant win, shutting out Western Kentucky 38-0 in front of 54,695 fans at IU’s Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Coach Curt Cignetti’s fourth-ranked Hoosiers leaned on their defense, which turned in a dominant performance. IU recorded its second straight shutout while limiting WKU to 186 yards of total offense and 10 first downs. While the defense shined, the IU offense did its job as well while piling up 513 yards of total offense. IU running back Turbo Richard ran for 149 yards and a score on just 15 carries, while wideout Charlie Becker caught five passes for 127 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown for his sixth score of the year.
IU returns to action next Friday against Northwestern at 8 p.m. at Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium. The Hoosiers' Big Ten opener is sold out, but fans are encouraged to check SeatGeek for secondary ticket market opportunities.
