The Munster Chamber of Commerce celebrated another wonderful year of service to our local community recently. At Hospice of the Calumet Area we were thrilled to see two of our own honored as Volunteer of the Year and Citizen of the Year! Congratulations to Damian Rico, Director of Marketing and Wendy Mis, Former Friends of Hospice President!

Damian Rico, Hospice of the Calumet Area's Director of Marketing and Community Relations since 2017, is deeply involved in the fabric of Northwest Indiana's community. From coaching his son's baseball team to acting on the Munster Chamber of Commerce to many many things in between, Damian is always ready to offer a helping hand.
Billy Joel once said, "If you're not doing what you love, you're wasting your time." Damian lives by this quote and truly loves what he does. He brings his whole self and sense of humor to his work, whether it is here at HCA or touching lives through his time spent volunteering. We are so proud his compassionate spirit was recognized in the "Volunteer of the Year" award.

Wendy Mis, Town of Munster's Clerk-Treasurer since 2019 was awarded Citizen of the Year. Wendy was the President of Friends of Hospice in 2016 and to this day helps our organization however she can. Her warmth and kind spirit is reflected in the well deserved "Citizen of the Year" title and, of course, in her acceptance speech!
"Now that I got my crown, sash and the microphone, you are all in trouble," joked Wendy Mis. "I can be the Grand Marshall at all of your parades and to my friends at Franciscan, if you need me for your room blessings, please let me know. And all you baseball teams, if you need me to throw out the first pitch, just call. But seriously, I want to thank all of you from the deepest part of my heart for this wonderful honor."
