Holdcraft Players is pleased to announce their fall production, Agnes of God. The thought-provoking, conversation-inspiring show will run the third and fourth weekends in October.
This compelling drama plays out in the office of psychiatrist Martha Livingstone (Greta Friedman), appointed by the court to determine if a young nun is fit to stand trial for the accused murder of her newborn child. Agnes (Alayna Lauritsen), the young nun, claims to have no knowledge of the pregnancy or birth. Mother Miriam Ruth (Bobbi Lauritsen) attempts to protect Agnes as Dr. Livingstone digs for the truth. The cast is rounded out with Emmie Riegel, Sue Vale, and H.B. Lemonger lending their talent to additional offstage voices. The characters take you on a journey of emotions as we learn about what brought them each to where they are today.
Well known on Broadway and film, the familiar show will be presented with a new depth at Holdcraft. This show is directed by local actor-turned-director, John Hutchinson. Hutchinson surprised audiences with his directorial debut of the much-talked-about I Regret Nothing last year. Hutchinson now brings his startling vision to a theater classic.
In an interview with Concord Theatricals, playwright John Pielmeier said about his script, “It’s a play that questions belief and disbelief, questions goodness and sanctity, questions guilt and innocence; in short, it’s a play that questions answers and celebrates questions.” In this spirit, the production team and cast will host a question-and-answer session each Sunday after the show for those interested in peeling back the onion and grasping all the layers they encountered in rehearsals.
Performances of Agnes of God will be Fridays and Saturdays, October 18, 19, 25, and 26 at 7pm, and Sundays, October 20 and 27 at 3pm. Holdcraft Players perform at the Holdcraft Performing Arts Center at 1200 Spring Street in Michigan City, Indiana. Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students.
