The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) is undertaking a process to update parts of the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan. The 2050 Plan will influence the future of the Northwest Indiana region and its 41 municipalities. The 2050 Plan will provide a guide for improving the area over the next decades, understanding that the area will continue to adapt to market changes and new technologies. The 2050 Plan will reinforce actions for the region to create Livable Centers which are mixed in character, compact in arrangement, walkable, and well-connected to their surroundings. The Plan includes planning elements related to Land Use, Active Transportation, and Transit.
